“Circle of Life” lyrics
Music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice
Performed by Elton John
From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to be seen than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
Some say eat or be eaten
Some say live and let live
But all are agreed as they join the stampede
You should never take more than you give
//(Chorus)//
In the Circle of Life
It's the wheel of fortune
It's the leap of faith
It's the band of hope
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle, the Circle of Life
Some of us fall by the wayside
And some of us soar to the stars
And some of us sail through our troubles
And some have to live with the scars
There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps the great and small on the endless round
//(Chorus repeats)//
On the path unwinding
In the Circle, the Circle of Life.
Explanation
Nature
One idea of transcendentalism that applies to this song can be 'nature.' First of all, it is obvious for most of us that this songs has something to do with nature because it is the famous disney song from the Lion King. But the part of the lyrics where I really found that nature applies was the beginning part of introducing every living creature sees when born in this world: from the day we arrive from the planet, and blinking, step into the sun, there's more to be seen than can ever be seen, more to do than can ever be done. And towards the end of the song: But the sun rolling high, through the sapphire sky, keeps the great and small on the endless round. We can see how the lyric itself is focusing on the phenomena of the physical world, including the plants, animals, and even the landscapes connecting it to the form of humans along with nature.
Confidence
Another idea of transcendentalism that applies to this song can be 'confidence.' The chorus part and the middle part of the song describes precisely on the theme of having confidence since there's just a cycle of life we have to go through. For instance in the chorus is says: In the circle of life, it's the wheel of fortune, it's the leap of faith, it's the band of hope, till we find our place... some of us fall by the wayside, and some of us soar to the stars, and some of us sail through our troubles... In other words to thoroughly explain the lyrics explained, it means even if we fall, even it we have difficult risks and challenges to face, we should have confidence and get over the hardships in life.
